Default bmw's are crap in the smow and ice. has anyone fittied winter tyres to a 1 series?

does it help and by how much
would appreciate a helpful answer not an opinion on bmw drivers - if you can't answer the question then why bother!!!

Hi
As this is a status symbol how can it be anything but rubbish.
most people who drive bmw are usually poor drivers as it such a forgiving car it lets you brake at the last minute and still stops on a wet road. but it wouldn't be a l;ot of use on ice as it just is so good at adhesion.

I think winter tyres are a waste of money in Germany and other parts of Northern Europe they use snow chains when things get really bad. Snow chains work on any car and these days there of lots of different easy fit types available. The reason BMW s are not that good in snow is that most models are rear wheel drive and this configuration is not as good as front wheel drive in snow because most of the weight of a rear wheel drive is at the front. That is why in the old days some people would put extra loads in their car boot to help with grip.
