Default Need help with 535i xdrive overheating

Hi All,
Please help if you can. I have 2009 BMW 535i xdrive. Below is the symptom

While driving on Interstate, suddenly temperature warning light(yellow) came on and at the same time i got warning that I should drive at moderate speed. Soon after that temperature warning light turned red and the iDrive messaging displayed stating that I should stop the car, which I promptly did and turned off the engine. Finally i as able to tow the car home, I plan to bring it to dealership but want to understand what the issue might be.

While idling I do not get any warning lights or warning messages, but as soon as I drive the car (about 100 ft) I start getting the temperature warning light and messages that I should turn off the car. While idling, the motor fan also is running at high speed and is very loud.

What was the diagnostic? My sister's 535i Xdrive had her temperature warning light came on the other day just a few streets away from home.

Have you checked or replaced the temp sensor? The sensor could be acting up and giving a bad reading. We might try replacing the sensor along as well order parts. We will start working on it right after we finished installing the new wheels and Mickey Thompson tires on the current truck project.
