Default Dim bmw x5 headlights?

I recently purchased a bmw x5 that is a 2008 model. I drive at night and have noticed the head lights are not bright enough you can hardly see beyond 30 meters and most of the time you have to drive with full lights. What could be the problem as it is now dangerous to drive at night. And yes the night is a clear night.
