BMW Team RLL survives to finish third as rain reigns in Watkins Glen
Jun 29, 2015 - 9:50 PM - by BMW Forums

Bill Auberlen (US) and Dirk Werner (DE) drove the number 25 BMW Z4 GTLM to a third place finish in a very wet “Six Hours of the Glen” on Sunday. The duo completed 157 laps of the 3.4-mile, 11-turn Watkins Glen International circuit (US) with the race slowed by eight caution periods and red flagged for 14 minutes during the worst downpour. The race ended behind the BMW M4 Safety Car during the last yellow flag with the GTLM victory going to the Porsche of Wolf Henzler (DE) and Bryan Sellers (US).

The BMW duo’s third podium finish of the season, including a win at Long Beach (US), moves Auberlen and Werner to the top of the GTLM driver points standings, and keeps BMW at the top of the GTLM manufacturer points standings. Continue reading...

DTM: Wittmann cashes in his present – 158 laps in a Formula One car.
A childhood dream came true for Marco Wittmann (DE) in Spielberg (AT) on Wednesday, when he took part in a Formula One test for Scuderia Toro Rosso. In good conditions, the 2014 DTM champion completed 158 laps of the 4.326-kilometre Red Bull Ring in the STR10, making him the hardest-working driver of the test day, at which the other Formula One teams were also in action. The Formula One test was a gift from BMW Motorsport and premium partner Red Bull to mark his title-winning season in the DTM.

Three questions for ... Marco Wittmann.

Marco, how did you feel on your way to this test – and how do you feel now, on your way home?
Marco Wittmann: “There was a lot of anticipation coming into the day. I was very relaxed about the whole thing, as I was not under any pressure. I took everything in my stride without too much expectation. Now that the day is over, I feel fantastic. I did an awful lot of laps and made the very most of my test. Both the team and I are very happy with the results of the test. That was a fantastic experience, for which I would like to say another big thank you to BMW Motorsport, Red Bull and Scuderia Toro Rosso. The team made me very welcome and I felt right at home.” ... Four BMW M4 DTM cars finish in the points at the Norisring
Jun 28, 2015 - 2:49 PM - by BMW Forums

The fifth race of the 2015 DTM season, at the Norisring (DE), developed into a real rain and tyre lottery. Four BMW drivers scored valuable points today. It began to rain at the 2.3-kilometer street circuit shortly before the race was due to start, which led to differing tyre strategies throughout the grid. BMW Team MTEK’s Bruno Spengler (CA) was one of the drivers who started the race on slicks in his BMW Bank M4 DTM. After 46 laps, he was the most successful of the BMW drivers, finishing fifth. Victory went to Mercedes driver Pascal Wehrlein (DE).

Martin Tomczyk (DE, BMW M Performance Parts M4 DTM), the only BMW driver to begin the race on wets, took the checkered flag directly behind Spengler in sixth. DTM champion Marco Wittmann (DE, Ice-Watch BMW M4 DTM) finished his home event in ninth place, behind fellow BMW driver Augusto Farfus (BR, Shell BMW M4 DTM). Continue reading...

After a turbulent qualifying session, three BMW M4 DTMs make the top ten.
Jun 27, 2015 - 3:44 PM - by BMW Forums

Norisring (DE), 27th June 2015. Rain in the morning and a track which was drying out provided plenty of action in the first qualifying session at the Norisring (DE). At the 2.3-kilometre street circuit, times were falling with each lap completed, meaning that deciding the starting grid for the first race went down to the wire.

In claiming sixth place in the Nürnberg (DE) rain lottery, Augusto Farfus (BR, 50.876 seconds) in the Shell BMW M4 DTM was the best-placed BMW driver. At his home event, DTM champion Marco Wittman (DE) qualified eighth. By qualifying in tenth, Martin Tomzcyk (DE) was the third BMW driver to make the top ten. Christian Vietoris (DE, Mercedes) will start from pole position after setting a time of 50.640 seconds. Continue reading...

The Design of the new MINI Clubman – stylish (under)statement
Jun 24, 2015 - 4:26 PM - by BMW Forums

In 2007, MINI wrote a new chapter in the brand’s history when it extended the product family by a vehicleconcept that was both innovative and stand-alone: the MINI Clubman. This MINI take on a “shooting brake” was a sports car that combined the style of a coupé with a hatchback for greater functionality – and proved a winning formula from the start.

In 2015, MINI took the Clubman’s success story further, transporting it – literally – into a new dimension. Commanding, elegant and noticeably matured, the third generation had clearly grown both inside and out while carving out a new vehicle class for MINI. “In a segment that places its focus primarily on function and usability, the new MINI Clubman offers unprecedented aesthetics brimming with serene elegance,” explains Anders Warming, Head of MINI Design. “Clever ideas, emotionally charged design and a high-end colour and material mix produce an overall experience previously unmatched in this vehicle class.” Even in the new premium-compact segment it is consciously designed as the “smallest large car”: true to the maxim of the classic Mini, it offers maximum interior space on a minimal footprint. The BMW Group is realigning the MINI brand’s product and brand strategy. At the world premiere of the new MINI Clubman in Berlin, Peter Schwarzenbauer, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, responsible for MINI, Rolls-Royce, BMW Motorrad and After Sales, explained how he plans to develop the brand: “Since its creation in 1959, the MINI brand has always stood for ideas, inspiration and passion. That will not change. The new MINI Clubman is the symbol of our refined brand philosophy: We will concentrate in future on five core models with strong characters. We will open ourselves up to new ideas and new business areas. We will develop the brand’s visual identity. We are expanding our offering into the premium compact class, which will attract new customers and avid MINI fans. I firmly believe that this comprehensive realignment will enable us to continue the MINI brand’s unique success story.” Continue reading...

BMW Motorsport Juniors in action at the endurance races in Zolder and Brno.
Jun 22, 2015 - 4:14 PM - by BMW Forums

Races with the BMW M235i Racing form a key part of the BMW Motorsport Junior programme – and the four talented youngsters, Victor Bouveng (SE), Nick Cassidy (NZ), Louis Delétraz (CH) and Trent Hindman (US), can look forward to two exciting new challenges under competitive conditions in 2015: the Juniors will compete in and gain valuable experience at the 24-hour race in Zolder (BE) and the 12-hour race in Brno (CZ).

“These two endurance races are a fantastic addition to our BMW Motorsport Junior programme this year,” said BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt. “A 24-hour race like the one in Zolder offers an outstanding opportunity to put into practice what we teach the Juniors within our programme. Victor Bouveng has already made a good impression at the Nürburgring 24 Hours. I am sure that Louis and Trent will also take an awful lot from that race. All four Juniors will form a team together for the first time in Brno. That will also be a valuable experience for the four drivers.” Continue reading...
