Hi everyone,

I have a M3 318i, manual transmission. My problem is i cant shift into any gears, the clutch goes in fine, it doesnt make any noises, but it just wont shift. its happened 2 times before, and after awhile the gears will go in, and driving is fine. What do you think the problem is?
I might seem stupid by askin this, I just bought the car, so i'm not sure on BMW's, does it really have a theft deter system?
The strange thing is that the car was parked before for 3 months because of this, on saturday we decided to start the car and check, the gears were perfect, we then drove to the gas station and went back home, switched the car off for bout 30 minutes, went back out to go somewhere, and wham, no gears!

I had a similar problem years ago with my GMC Jimmy. It is very likely that your pressure plate is worn. It may be possible to adjust it , that may work short term. However, you should start preparing for serious work, arrange for time to get the work done, a ride to and from work etc. While it doesn't take that long to fix, most good mechanics are busy and require an advance appointment and time to order parts.

You should take it to your local BMW dealer.
