I have just bought a BMW 316i 4 door saloon (T reg) with 65,000 miles on the clock. I bought from a dealer and it has a "full service" history. However i do not know if it has had its timing (cam belt) changed. Do you think i should get changed with this many miles on the clock?

Cheers

As it has a full service history the dealer will tell you
happy motoring x

Is it a full BMW service history?

If it is then simply phone up any BMW dealer, ask for the service department, quote them your chassis number and ask what has been done to the car.
They should be able to tell you exactly which jobs have and have not been done to the car.

If it hasn't been done, then I'd recommend getting it changed soon.

If you’re unsure then its probably worth changing it, now. If you take it to a garage they may be able to tell if the belt has been changed recently.

If I were buying from a dealer at that mileage, its probably one of the first questions I would have asked !!!!! Has it had a cambelt change whilst in your possession ?

Cam belts changes are never cheap. Do you have any documentation from previous owner (service book stuff) as to the car's service history ?

For my car there is no way to check the cam belt from outside.... it can only be done with an engine out job, and even then.... a belt may look fine but rubber gets weaker with mileage and time. If you do need a new cam belt change... check if you need new tensioners, rollers and water pump. Easy to do those at the same time. On my car those are as likely to break as cambelt with same age/mileage... and if they do they lead to major valve damage.. same as a cambelt slip/breakage.
