this morning i started my car and by mistake i didnt turn the key long enough and the car didnt start and then i started it again the service engine light came on and it drives and everything but as soon as i stop on a light or something the car shut off the normal rev is between .5 to 1 but it goes lower and the engine shuts off it doesnt idle at all

it could be a bad alternator

sounds like the alternator.

Alternator my ass, If your little battery light goes out when the engine starts then its unlikely there is a problem with it.

Its more likely to be something associated with the idle speed control.

The fact the you have a check light on means that the ecu has detected a problem and you clearly have one if it wont idle.

Take it to your dealer or a service centre with diagnostic equipment, once there they can scan for the fault codes that the car will have reported.
