The stalk to set the clock on my 2000 323i doesn't work. You can turn it left/right, but it doesn't change the time. My mechanic says that to fix it, I'll have to replace the entire instrument panel (i.e., you can't just buy a new stalk mechanism, you have to buy a whole new instrument panel, which will include the stalk). Does anyone know if this is true? I hate to spend that kind of money just so my clock will show the correct time.

PS - The Yahoo editor says I have too much punctuation. Hope my question is intelligible anyway.
Clarifications:

- I am referring to the stalk that protrudes from the right-hand side of the instrument panel, for the purpose of setting the time of day.
- The function that does not work is setting the time of day (for example, changing the time from 10:06 a.m. to 10:11 a.m.)
- This question has nothing to do with the turn signal or turn signal stalk attached to the steering column.
