I do not use the dealer anymore would like the light to go away thanks

it has to be done by a dealer or a mechanic who has the computer he can plug in and reset it. thats the only way to do it unless you have a current problem that needs attention. find a service tech who can look at it using the computer.

If you go into any BMW dealership and tell them that you want your Service engine light reset you shouldn't have to wait more than 5 or 10 minutes. Tell them you dont want any service done. I used to work in the service department of a BMW dealership in oregon and i would have to take 2 or 3 cars back a day to have a tech reset the light...

Can only be done through the dealer, or specialist who has the special tool to do it, it's not something ordinary that just anyone can do, do you not take your vehicle to a BMW specialist/mechanic? If it's not serviced by your dealer?
If I were you I'd find one if the answer is no, I know regular mechanics would not service the vehicle properly as they obviously need to specialize in the brand, otherwise the repairs would end up costing you a lot more in the long run for work performed unsatisfactorily to the vehicle.
