...any body tell me what this is? there is a light next to it that looks like a fan or something. it says in the manual this is something to do with emmissions. this light stays on too. as any body got any idea what these are and what its likely to cost?

Does your BM have a catalytic converter? If so get it checked...can be expensive i'm afraid
