Could someone please tell me how much a new turbo for my bmw will cost me please? The last 2 days my car has been smoking loads but running fine but today i think the turbo has totally gone as i have very little power in it. The tutbo is not kicking in. Any ideas or help etc please?

I would have someone look at it first, as the turbo may be ok.

2 be honest it will probably be cheaper 2 eaither get a new engine or have the engine you have stripped and put back together with a new turbo, but u cant just replace the turbo without stripping the engine, wont work very well, if the car is old then maybe its time 2 say bye bye 2 it cos to have the engine replace will be anywhere from £400 -£600 thats just for fitting it without buying the engine, stripping will be about £400 plus and u will have 2 buy a turbo which will be hard 2 come by, maybe its time for a new car sorry, its what happened 2 our car and we had to get rid of it, hope thios helps you

Dev over time the bearings and seals between the exhaust side and the boost side of a turbo become worn. When they fail lubricating oil is pumped into the exhaust via the turbo.
My advice would be to remove the turbo and have it checked out to see if its possible to repair it. For example if only the bearings and seals need changing, expect to pay less than £100, however if the blades of the turbo have contacted the sides of the housing it time to scrap the turbo.
Reconditioned turbos are available on the Internet and there is always the option of trying your local scrap yard.
Turbos are very simple bits of kit, if you have one in your hand spind the blades and listen of any rumbling noise from the bearings. If this is OK try wiggling the impeller to check for play.
Other than this the other option would be to purchase a brand new turbo from either BMW or from a performance car parts store.
