youhave a wire that goes to the fuel pump either shorting out, or has a bad connection that shows up when you hit a bump. the power wire runs the pump and the guage which are located in the tank. i would start at the tank, where they hook to the fuel pump, then work your way forward and something somewhere will show up.

Before you start replacing stuff (unless you have plenty money) try to find out where the wiring is disturbed from doing the engine work. Possibly a wire got pinched (and is broken inside the insulation whre it is hard to see) , - or you have a loose plug somewhere. So check to see if the relay is properly seated in the plug ! If you have this sort of problem you can try moving all the wires in that area around and see if the engine quits running! If this is your problem, - you will still have to hunt it after you have replaced all the expensive stuff anyway!

By the way if "shorted", - it will be blowing fuses or burning wires!
